Eucharistic

An Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister is part of a sacred ministry serving our Parish Community by participating in distributing Holy Communion at Mass.

To serve as a Eucharistic Minister is an honor as well as a responsibility. It is performed with the reverence and Signity due the Blessed Sacrament.

In 1973, the Church approved extraordinary lay ministers, now called Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion. Prior to entering the ministry, men and women are instructed in the practices of assisting with the distribution. They then are commissioned by the Pastor.

In the part of the liturgy, called the Epiclesis, the Spirit transforms the bread and wine into the Eucharistic Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharistic Ministers assigned as Bread and Cup Ministers then join the celebrant in the distribution to the assembly.

Eucharistic Ministers on special assignment also visit the Homebound after Mass. Each Eucharistic Minister is encouraged to be part of this important ministry to the sick and homebound.
